June 1st – Beatles – “With a little help from my friends”

In 1967 the #Beatles released their 8th album, #Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.  Here is my favourite track “With a little help from my friends”   #singing;#feelgood

With a little help from my friends

What would you think if I sang out of tune
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song
And I’ll try not to sing out of key
Oh I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm I get high with a little help from my friends
Mm going to try with a little help from my friendsWhat do I do when my love is away?
(Does it worry you to be alone?)
How do I feel by the end of the day?
(Are you sad because you’re on your own?)
No I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm I get high with a little help from my friends
Mm going to try with a little help from my friends(Do you need anybody?)
I need somebody to love
(Could it be anybody?)
I want somebody to love

(Would you believe in a love at first sight?)
Yes I’m certain that it happens all the time
(What do you see when you turn out the light?)
I can’t tell you, but I know it’s mine
Oh I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm I get high with a little help from my friends
Oh I’m going to try with a little help from my friends

(Do you need anybody?)
I just need somebody to love
(Could it be anybody?)
I want somebody to love

Oh I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm going to try with a little help from my friends
Oh I get high with a little help from my friends
Yes I get by with a little help from my friends
With a little help from my friends

May 31st – Big Ben rang for the first time – “Ring my bell”

In 1859, #Big Ben first rang out across the #London skies.  Join in with Anita Ward as she sings her 1978 hit “Ring my Bell”    #singing;#feelgood

Ring my Bell

I’m glad you’re home
Well, did you really miss me?
I guess you did by the look in your eye (look in your eye, look in your eye)
Well lay back and relax while I put away the dishes
Then you and me can rock a bellYou can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bellThe night is young and full of possibilities
Well come on and let yourself be free
My love for you, so long I’ve been savin’
Tonight was made for me and youYou can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell (ring my bell, ding-dong-ding)
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell (ring my bell, ring-a-ling-a-ling)
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell (ring my bell, ding-dong-ding)
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell (ring my bell, ring-a-ling-a-ling)(you can ring my bell, you can ring my bell
ding, dong, ding, ah-ah, ring it!
you can ring my bell, anytime, anywhere
ring it, ring it, ring it, ring it, oww!
you can ring my bell, you can ring my bell
ding, dong, ding, ah-ah, ring it!
you can ring my bell, anytime, anywhere
ring it, ring it, ring it, ring it, oww!)You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell (ring my bell, ding-dong-ding)
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell (ring my bell, ring-a-ling-a-ling)
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell (ring my bell, ding-dong-ding)
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell (ring my bell, ring-a-ling-a-ling)

May 30th – Ray Stevens – “Everything is beautiful”

In 1970, Ray Stevens went to #1 in the US charts with “Everything is beautiful”  #singing, #feelgood

Everything is Beautiful

Jesus loves the little children,
All the little children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white,
They are precious in his sight.
Jesus loves the little children of the world.Everything is beautiful in it’s own way.
Like the starry summer night, or a snow-covered winter’s day.
And everybody’s beautiful in their own way.
Under God’s heaven, the world’s gonna find the way. There is none so blind as he who will not see.
We must not close our minds; we must let our thoughts be free.
For every hour that passes by, we know the world gets a little bit older.
It’s time to realize that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. And everything is beautiful in it’s own way.
Like the starry summer night, or a snow-covered winter’s day.
Oh, sing it children!
Everybody’s beautiful in their own way.
Under God’s heaven, the world’s gonna find the way.We shouldn’t care about the length of his hair, or the color of his skin.
Don’t worry about what shows from without, but the love that lives within.
And we’re gonna get it all together now; everything gonna work out fine.
Just take a little time to look on the good side my friend,
And straighten it out in your mind.

And everything is beautiful in it’s own way.
Like the starry summer night, or a snow-covered winter’s day.
Ah, sing it children!
Everybody’s beautiful in their own way,
Under God’s heaven the world’s gonna find a way.
One more time!
Everything is beautiful in it’s own way.
Like the starry summer night, or a snow-covered winter’s day…

May 29th – Marvin Gaye – “Ain’t no mountain high enough”

In 1953, Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay reached the top of #Everest.  “Ain’t no mountain high enough seems an appropriate song for today!

Ain’t no mountain high enough

Listen, baby
Ain’t no mountain high
Ain’t no vally low
Ain’t no river wide enough, baby
If you need me, call me
No matter where you are
No matter how far
Just call my name
I’ll be there in a hurry
You don’t have to worry
‘Cause baby,
There ain’t no mountain high enough
Ain’t no valley low enough
Ain’t no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you
Remember the day
I set you free
I told you
You could always count on me
From that day on I made a vow
I’ll be there when you want me
Some way,some how
‘Cause baby,
There ain’t no mountain high enough
Ain’t no valley low enough
Ain’t no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you
No wind, no rain
My love is alive
Way down in my heart
Although we are miles apart
If you ever need a helping hand
I’ll be there on the double
As fast as I can
Don’t you know that
There ain’t no mountain high enough
Ain’t no valley low enough
Ain’t no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you
Don’t you know that
There ain’t no mountain high enough
Ain’t no valley low enough
Ain’t no river wide enough

May 28th – Percy Sledge – “When a man loves a woman”

In 1966 Percy Sledge started a two week run at No. 1 in the US singles chart with “When a man loves a woman”.  Before the recording session the song had to title or lyrics.  So hum along and don’t worry about the words!  #singing;#feelgood

When a man loves a woman

When A Man Loves A Woman by Percy Sledge
When a man loves a woman
Can’t keep his mind on nothing else
He’ll trade the world
For the good thing he’s found
If she’s bad he can’t see it
She can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend
If he put her down When a man loves a woman
Spend his very last dime
Tryin’ to hold on to what he needs
He’d give up all his comfort
Sleep out in the rain
If she said that’s the way it ought to beWell, this man loves a woman
I gave you everything I had
Tryin’ to hold on to your precious love
Baby, please don’t treat me bad

When a man loves a woman
Down deep in his soul
She can bring him such misery
If she plays him for a fool
He’s the last one to know
Lovin’ eyes can’t ever see

When a man loves a woman
He can do no wrong
He can never own some other girl
Yes when a man loves a woman
I know exactly how he feels
‘Cause baby, baby, baby, you’re my world

When a man loves a woman…..

May 27th – Buddy Holly – “That’ll be the Day”

This is the day that Buddy Holly and the Crickets released their first record “That’ll be the Day”.  It was a UK No. 1 and a US No.3. #singing#feelgood

That’ll be the Day

Well, that’ll be the day, when you say goodbye
Yes, that’ll be the day, when you make me cry
You say you’re gonna leave, you know it’s a lie
‘Cause that’ll be the day when I dieWell, you give me all your lovin’ and your turtle dovin’
All your hugs and kisses and your money too
Well, you know you love me baby
Until you tell me, maybe
That some day, well I’ll be throughWell, that’ll be the day, when you say goodbye
Yes, that’ll be the day, when you make me cry
You say you’re gonna leave, you know it’s a lie
‘Cause that’ll be the day when I die[Instrumental Interlude]

Well, that’ll be the day, when you say goodbye
Yes, that’ll be the day, when you make me cry
You say you’re gonna leave, you know it’s a lie
‘Cause that’ll be the day when I die

Well, when Cupid shot his dart
He shot it at your heart
So if we ever part and I leave you
You sit and hold me and you tell me boldly
That some day, well I’ll be blue

Well, that’ll be the day, when you say goodbye
Yes, that’ll be the day, when you make me cry
You say you’re gonna leave, you know it’s a lie
‘Cause that’ll be the day when I die

Well, that’ll be the day, hoo-hoo
That’ll be the day, hoo-hoo
That’ll be the day, hoo-hoo
That’ll be the day

May 26th – Bobbie (Boris) Pickett and the Cryptkickers – “Monster Mash”

In 1897 Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” went on sale.  More than 60 years later the “classic” The Monster Mash was written.  Enjoy! #singing;#feelgood

Monster Mash

I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
For my monster from his slab began to rise
And suddenly to my surpriseHe did the mash
He did the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
He did the mash
It caught on in a flash
He did the mash
He did the monster mashFrom my laboratory in the castle east
To the master bedroom where the vampires feast
The ghouls all came from their humble abodes
To get a jolt from my electrodes

They did the mash
They did the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
They did the mash
It caught on in a flash
They did the mash
They did the monster mash

The zombies were having fun
The party had just begun
The guests included Wolf Man
Dracula and his son

The scene was rockin’, all were digging the sounds
Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds
The coffin-bangers were about to arrive
With their vocal group, “The Crypt-Kicker Five”

They played the mash
They played the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
They played the mash
It caught on in a flash
They played the mash
They played the monster mash

Out from his coffin, Drac’s voice did ring
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
He opened the lid and shook his fist
And said, “Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?”

It’s now the mash
It’s now the monster mash
The monster mash
And it’s a graveyard smash
It’s now the mash
It’s caught on in a flash
It’s now the mash
It’s now the monster mash

Now everything’s cool, Drac’s a part of the band
And my monster mash is the hit of the land
For you, the living, this mash was meant too
When you get to my door, tell them Model A sent you

Then you can mash
Then you can monster mash
The monster mash
And do my graveyard smash
Then you can mash
You’ll catch on in a flash
Then you can mash
Then you can monster mash

May 24th – Duke Ellington – “Satin Doll”

In 1974 the great band leader Duke Ellington died.  Here is one of his greats – Satin Doll.  Although the song was sund by Ella Fitzgerald, here is the Duke with just his band as a tribute to the “original”.

Satin Doll

Cigarette holder which wigs me
Over her shoulder, she digs me.
Out cattin’ that satin doll.Baby, shall we go out skippin ?
Careful, amigo, you’re flippin’,
Speaks Latin that satin doll. She’s nobody’s fool so I’m playing it cool as can be.
I’ll give it a whirl but I ain’t for no girl catching me,
Swich-e-rooney.

Telephone numbers well you know,
Doing my rhumbas with uno
And that’n my satin doll.

May 23rd – Georgie Fame – “Bonnie and Clyde”

In 1934, Bonnie and Clyde were shot dead by police in a stolen car.  Here is the classic song about their exploits by Georgie Fame.

The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde

Bonnie and Clyde were pretty looking people
But I can tell you people
They were the devil’s children
Bonnie and Clyde began their evil doing
One lazy afternoon down Savannah way
They robbed a store and
Hightailed outa that town
Got clean away in a stolen car
And waited till the heat died down
Bonnie and Clyde advanced their reputation
And made the graduation
Into the banking business
“Reach for the sky” sweet-talking Clyde would holler
As Bonnie loaded dollars in the dewlap bag
Now one brave man-he tried to take ’em alone
They left him lying in a pool of blood
And laughed about it all the way home.
Bonnie and Clyde got to be public enemy number one
Running and hiding
From every American lawman’s gun
They used to laugh about dying
But deep inside ’em they knew
That pretty soon they’d be lying
Beneath the ground together
Pushing up daisies to welcome the sun
And the morning dew
Acting upon reliable information
A federal deputation laid a deadly ambush
When Bonnie and Clyde came walking in the sunshine
A half a dozen carbines opened up on them
Bonnie and Clyde
They lived a lot together
And finally together,
They died.
